The Unconditional Positive Regard approach
This type of counselling is called PERSON CENTRED THERAPY (PCT). It is important for me that my clients believe that I will not be judging them. We all have baggage, deep feelings, and sensitivities. None of us are perfect!! That is just part of being a human being. There are so many issues we have to face in life and talking to someone in a totally confidential setting can be enormously helpful. I believe kindness, gentleness, encouragement of self-awareness', and a certain amount of good old fashioned common sense helps the process of recovery.
Person Centred and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy
There is a treatment in counselling called Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) which is a structured way of dealing with depression, low self-esteem and a host of other problems. CBT has been medically proven to be enormously helpful to people. I use a combination of CBT and a gentle approach called Person Centred Therapy (PCT), which involves working through the past with a view to finding out if those memories have impacted on the presenting problem.
I have a degree in Counselling and Psychotherapy, my governing body being the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (accredited) which has a very strict code of ethics and stringent guidelines which I have to adhere to.
I attend refresher courses and seminars regularly which keep me fully up to date with all the latest research and general information in the counselling world.
NHS & Private Practice
I have worked for the NHS in a hospital setting and for the last 7 years in private practice. I had a private practice in central London for some years before moving to Wiltshire, and now see clients 3 days a week from my home, and 2 days a week in my Harley Street practice.
I attend personal supervision regularly which is also a requirement of my governing body.
- Fashion industry – advanced diploma from the London School of Fashion. I believe our own self image can greatly influence our confidence. This applies to both Men and Women. The ageing process can hugely affect the way we think other people judge us.
- Public relations – I handled accounts in the leisure industry. I think this helped me condense information into something that becomes easy to access.
- West End Publishing – I had my own company which was responsible for publishing all the London Theatre Programmes. That world gave me a huge insight into the various shades of character that make up our world.
- I’ve raised my own family and feel I’m aware of the difficulties we all face at different stages in our lives.
