I have a programme for helping young people who for one reason or another are feeling unhappy. It is so important to learn life skills early on because these are the foundations for going forward through life.

Anorexia Nervosa – Bulimia Nervosa – Binge Eating Disorder

There are three types of eating disorders. Anorexia Nervosa – Bulimia Nervosa – Binge Eating Disorder. There are many symptoms, all around food and body image. Obviously weight loss (or in binge eating, weight gain) and obsession with weight and calorie intake are apparent. Other symptoms may not be so obvious – loss of sexual desire, cessation of menstruation, mood swings, depression, extreme tiredness, poor sleeping habits, loss of confidence and self-esteem, suicidal thoughts, fear of eating around other people, secretive eating patterns, hiding food to avoid eating it or to eat secretly at a later time.

All these behaviours are indicative of depression, loneliness and acute anxiety. Eating disorders are often an outward expression of internal emotional confusion. Making the conscious decision to eat inappropriately is a form of control which grows in power with life threatening results.

Counselling people with eating disorders gives the client the space and time, in a confidential setting, to unearth the negative and deep rooted emotional feelings that started the wheel turning so painfully. It is quite possible to be supported and guided back to a healthy relationship with food.
